There are a few words in Indonesian and Malay that are identical or very similar to Tagalog . For example, the word "anak" in Indonesian and Malay which means "child". Tagalog also has the word "anak", which likewise means "child" in that language. The word "gunting" means "scissors" in Indonesian and Malay, and it also means the same thing in Tagalog. In Indonesian and Malay, the word "tolong" means "help". In Tagalog, the word for "help" is "tulong", which is spelled and sounds very much like "tolong".
However, aside from these few similarities, an Indonesian or Malaysian would have difficulty understanding Tagalog.
