Volume of a cylinder is: (pi)(r)^2*h
Let's talk about why that is for a second: What is volume in general? It's the product of all three dimensions (height, width, and length)...in other words, it's the area*height
So...what's the area in this case? the area of a circle: (pi)r^2
what's the volume, then? (pi)(r)^2*height
let's fill in the variables:
pi=3.14
r=diameter/2=12/2=6 inches
height=5 inches
Put it all together:
(6^2)*(5)*(3.14)=565.2 cubic inches
