Melody wants to sell bags of mixed candy at her lemonade stand. She will mix chocolate pieces that cost $4.89 per bag with peanut butter pieces that cost $3.79 per bag to get a total of 25 bags of mixed candy. Melody wants the bags of mixed candy to cost her $4.23 a bag to make. How many bags of chocolate pieces and how many bags of peanut butter pieces should she use?

Hi Adrian,

If we let c=# of bags of chocolate pieces and p=# of bags of peanut butter pieces

and the cost of c=4.89$/bag and cost of p=3.79$/bag

We have c+p=25................she wants to make 25 bags of the mixture

4.89c+3.79p=4.23*25 =105.75.................she wants the 25 bags to cost her 4.23$/bag

Solving the 2 equations we get c=10 bags an p=15 bags
