Without using your calculator, I the denominator of the fraction in simplest form is divisible by 2 or 5, then the fraction terminates as a decimal. If not, the fraction repeats as a decimal.

If you use your calculator, dividing 5/11 gives you 0.45454545......

Since there is a visible pattern (the 4 and 5), and it does not seem to end, you can call it a repeating decimal.
