First you need to get a common denominator for both the fractions.
In this case it is 5 X 4 = 20
Now multiply both the numerator and denominator of first fraction by 4, so 2/5 becomes 2X4/5X4= 8/20
Similarly multiply the numerator and denominator of the second fraction by 5, 1/4 now becomes 5/20.
Now add 8/20 and 5/20 and th3 answer is 13/20.
