Hi There, Thanks for your answer however on the first answer I didn't understand step 2, (2n + 3p = 40.30)(-3)
(3n + 5p =61)(2)

-6n - 9p = -120.90
6n + 10p = 122

Thanks in advance. Waiting for your answer.

Hi Mohammed,

No problem, I did not explain it very clearly. To solve a system of equations we must first pick one variable to solve first because only one variable can be found at a time. Here I chose to eliminate n and solve for p, therefore when the equations are added together the numbers in front of n must be able to cancel out (-6n+6n=0).

However, we cannot just change one number, we must do the same thing to the whole equation. so the first equation is multiplied by -3 all throughout and the second by 2 throughout.

Hope that is a little clearer, if not feel free to tell me what part I can explain further.

Hey, could you answer this? A gift shop had 500 coloring pencils. The shop sold 3 sets of 20 coloring pencils, 6 sets of 12 coloring pencils, and 10 sets of 18 coloring pencils. Write a numerical expression to show how many coloring pencils are left. Evaluate the numerical expression using the order of operations. Thanks a lot! Olivia
