If length is x, width is x-6, 2(x+x-6)=48, x = 15 and width is 9, area = 15x9=135 metrer square

Given the length of a rectangle is 6m longer than its width, assume that the width (W) is x meters, then the length (L) is (x+6) meters. 

Also the perimeter (=2 length's + 2 width's) of the rectangle is 48 m,

so we have the following equation: 2x + 2(x+6) = 48, solve for x, we get x = 9 m, namely W= 9 m.

Then L = x+6= 9+6= 15 m.

Area of the rectangle = W x L = 9 x 15 = 135 m²
