For these problems, you would use the equation M1V1 = M2V2 where M1 and V1 refers to the Molarity and Volume of the initial solution, respectively, and M2 and V2 refers to the Molarity and Volume of the diluted solution
1.) M2 = M1V1/V2 = (0.2 L*0.2 M)/0.5 L = 0.08 M
The diluted solution will have a Molarity of 0.08 M.
2.) V2 = M1V1/M2 = (0.240 L * 0.5 M)/0.2 M = 0.6 L
To achieve this 0.2 M NaNO3, the solution would need to be diluted to 0.6 L, or 600 mL.
