Add 1 to both sides

Take the square root from both sides

Solution Steps:

1) Add 1 to both sides

(1/4)*( (x+5)^2 ) = 3+1=4

2) Multiply both sides by 4

(x+5)^2 = 16

3) Take the square root from both sides

x+5 = 4

4) Subtract 5 from both sides

x = -1
