For this question, we will use the following equation:
ppm = (mass of solute ÷ mass of solution) x 1,000,000.
The mass of solute will the the AgCl.
The mass of solution will be 1000 g, which is equal to 1 kg.
ppm = (8/1000) * 1,000,000 = 8,000
The concentration is 8,000 ppm.
As a side note, future problems may require you to add the grams of solute to the solvent. For example, if a problem says to determine the concentration in ppm of a 10 gram AgCl dissolved in 1 kg of water, the mass of solution would be 1010. However, from the way the posted problem is worded the solvent already contains the 8 grams of AgCl.
