Geometry floor plan

Question

I’m doing an geometry floor plan with a scale factor of 1 inch=5feet and I have to find the area of each room and multiply it by what kind of flooring I want should I multiply the area by 5 first and then get the cost or should i find the area and just multiply by the cost of flooring?

I think it would be easier to convert every length from your paper (inches) into "real life" lengths of feet, then calculate "real life" areas, then multiply by the cost of the flooring (I'm assuming in "$/square foot")
