Here's one way of thinking about it.
2/3 = 0.6666666666666667
3/4 = 0.75
So 2/3 means he's ran 2 of the 3 units and achieved .75 distance which we can divide in half and get 0.375 for each unit he ran. So we can assume he'll run another .375 for the 3rd unit making it 3/3 for the full race, and bring the distance to his 0.75 + 0.375
or 1.125 miles
