OK, Adrian, if we let J = Jenny's age and M = Matthew's age, then M = 3J

 

In 7 years, Matthew will be M + 7 years old, but also 2(J + 7)

 

Since we have M = 3J from the first equation, we can substitute that into the 2nd.

 

3J + 7 = 2J + 14

       J = 7

 

So, Jenny is 7 and Matthew is 21.
