Let x = the first integer and y = the second integer.
Then we have x + y = -5 and x y = -14 Then substituting
y = -x - 5 into the second equation yields
x ( -x - 5 ) = -14 or -x2 - 5x = -14 Multiplying by -1 and setting equal to zero
x2 + 5 x -14 = 0 Factoring we have
( x + 7 ) ( x - 2 ) = 0 or x = -7 and x = 2
Check -7 + 2 = -5 and ( -7 ) ( 2 ) = -14
