Recall that surface area is a measurement of the space around an object. So, to figure out surface area, we need to find the area of each face and then take the sum. Cuboids have six faces, and each face is a rectangle. For, this 10 cm x 10 cm x 5 cm cuboid, we have three pairs of faces:
Two 10 cm x 10 cm The area of each face is 10 x 10 = 100 sq. cm
Two 10 cm x 5 cm The area of each face is 10 x 5 = 50 sq. cm
Two 10 cm x 5 cm The area of each face is again 10 x 5 = 50 sq. cm
Therefore the surface area of this cuboid equals 100 + 50 + 50 = 200 sq. cm
