The best way to improve is to be genuinely interested in the life, work, challenges and general curiosities of the person you're speaking with. If you don't care about them, your conversation will be rote, robotic, and short lived. You'll look for ways to navigate the conversation into your world, and it won't be a dance of words between two people, as good conversations are.
