Suppose the length of each equal-length side of an isosceles traingle is three times the length of the base. If the perimeter is 140 centimeters, what are the lengths of the base and the sides of equal length?

Answer 1

b = length of base

3b = length of one equal side

3b = length of the other equal side

 

b + 3b + 3b = 140

7b = 140

b = 20

3b = 60

 

The base is 20 and each of the two equal sides are 60.
