I had some old 8mm (16fps) and Super-8 (18fps) film transfered to HD video (1080p30). Since the video is 30fps, they telecined it, duplicating frames. The telecine pattern (from looking at the video frame-by frame) appears to be:AABBCCDEEEFFGHHIIJJKKLMMMNNOPPWhich seems breathtakingly awful from a playback point of view. It should have been something like:ABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIJJKKLLMMNNOOPP So my question is: **Are there any tools out there that can fix this?**My secondary question is: Should this have been digitized at 16fps? Seems like that would minimize file size, introduce no errors (like I'm dealing with now) and let the playback engine decide how best to convert the frame rate (when needed).
Did transfers for 20-years. Never saw that. What they should have done was use Direct To Video. That would mean they should have recorded into the Camera using a variable speed projector with a variable angle shutter on the camera in realtime with a sync pulse generator. It would come out PERFECT every time then. However, this method requires variable settings every time. That is why so many people do it as a video scanner - NOT CORRECT! Fix it? Hmm. All I can say is to try video converter programs. WonderShare Video Converter Ultimate Pro comes to mind. It does not have individual control of CODEC's parameters. But the Auto settings are pretty good. It does offer different output frame rates. That may do just what you want.
