The commutative property of both multiplication and addition means just what the word says... a "commuter" is someone who drives or walks somewhere...they move right? so think of the commutative property as the numbers being commuters! They move! So for addition you're just going to take the two numbers and move them! But remember when you move a number the sign (positive or negative) has to go with it. Like this...
4 + (-6) would be (-6) + 4
and the same applies to the multiplication one too like this...
x(-10) would be (-10)x
and you can only use this property with multiplication and addition because those are the only times you'll get the same answer!
