There are various ways of expressing the maximal velocity (Vmax) in enzyme kinetics. Common units include moles/mg/min; umoles/mg/sec; etc. Notice they include amount of product formed or substrate consumed, the amount of enzyme (usually in mg) and the time. Today, a more common expression is kcat which takes into account the amount of enzyme and is equal to Vmax/[E] and usually has units of s-1.
