For your line in the slope intercept form y = mx + b
y = 1/3x + 6
The slope of the Perpendicular line is the negative inverse of 1/3, so that is -3/1 or negative 3
m = -3
We can use the slope and the coordinates of the point (2, -3) to calculate b as follows:
-3 = -3(2) + b
-3 = -6 + b
Add 6 to both sides to solve for b
-3 + 6 = b
3 = b
Then we just plug our slope, m = -3 and b = 3 into slope intercept form and we have
y = mx + b
y = -3x + 3
Or choice C)y = -3x + 3
As our line perpendicular to y = 1/3x + 6
