Most students are anxious about exactly what the Analytical Writing Section of the GRE entails. Practicing writing responses ahead of time is critical; however, you should be careful to duplicate the conditions and constraints of the test. Do not use a word processor, as you will not have one in the live test. Make sure you time your response to the thirty-minute limit--even if that means your conclusion is not as developed as you would like. Maintaining focus and clarity are key to strong responses. Select strong examples that you feel comfortable defending. Make sure you read the instructions for the prompt. There are distinct differences in the instructions provided that must be followed or your score will suffer, i.e. do not simply read the prompt and begin writing. Make sure you understand what you are being asked to do and then formulate your essay.
