Guitar book to complement my guitar lessons?

I have recently started guitar lessons. I really love them, but I feel there is something missing. My teacher's approach is "every class, let's learn a new song" but I feel I need some theory, like how to build chords, what note I make if I pulse this or that string, or playing techniques, etc. That is why I thought I could complement my lessons with a "theory guitar book" where how to play the guitar is explained and with progression of exercises. Is there such a thing? Or my teacher's approach is the way to learn to play an instrument (It is the first time I ever attempt to learn to play a musical instrument). Any advice will be welcomed!!

I certainly have read my share of book and been influenced by them For students I prefer to either create custom lessons or provide selections from the compositions of others. For theory, I prefer to provided the instruction via a worksheet and through direct communication. All of mimic the ways I have learned music.

The Guitar Handbook by Ralph Denyer is the ultimate guitar book, covering all aspects of guitar theory, music theory, gear, technique, history, and application. I've read it cover-to-cover dozens of times and continue to learn from it!

Solo Guitar playing by Frederick Noad is a great book to learn classical technique and how to read music. The Guitar Grimoire books are great for learning theory/chords and scales.
