At a competition with 5 runners 5 medals are awarded for first place through fifth place each medal is different how many ways are there to award the medals decide if the situation involves a permutation or a combination and then find the number of ways to award the medals

Since the order of finish matters this is a permutation which is 5! (5x4x3x2x1)= 120

Looking at it logically we have 5 choices for first place , then only 4 choices for second place, then only 3 choices for third, 2 choices for fourth and only 1 choice for last
