The sin of any angle is equal to the cosine of its complimentary angle. Draw a right triangle with angles of 90, 16 and 74 degrees You will see that the side opposite the 16 degree angle is the same as the side adjacent to the 74 degree angle

So sin 16 = cosine 74degrees
