Why are Greek and Latin words important?

Because ancient Greek is the rute of Latin language. Most of the languages of west world : english , italian , french , german , spanish ... come from latin language so they have borrowed many words from Greek such as the most of the medical and science words. For example : pediatrics , in Greek is παιδιατρική sound like pediatriki and come from the words : παιδί (pedi ) + ιατρική ( iatriki ) thats means : child + medicine
