Distribute objects along a path in Illustrator?

Using Adobe Illustrator, how can I evenly distribute a group of objects along an arc?

One method is to turn the object or group of objects into a pattern brush. Drag the object(s) to the Brushes window and select Pattern Brush. Adjust scale and spacing for optimal results. Then you can draw an arc, and apply the brush to it.
