Illustrator "virtual" clone?

Question

how can I clone an object in Illustrator so that a link remains to the source object and modifying it alters all the copies as well? Thanks

in the menu bar go to file> place

then select the file you want to import.

click and place.

(if you change the original it should up date)

Keep in mind since it is a clone. if you delete or move the original file or open document on another computer the image will not be there since it is a clone.

you must embed to keep it in the file ( that is another lesson )
