10 Years Tutor Experience Working Individually with AD/ADHD learners
As a future Wyzant tutor, one is responsible for entering all the information into each category of Wyzant's profile. You take subject tests and you tutor in those areas if you effectively pass the tests. You don't have to tutor a plethora of clients. You can highlight your special subject strengths by thinking critically about what you wish to tutor year-round and how you want to tutor others (online, in-person, in public places, etc.). Wyzant pre-approves your entries to help you market yourself better. I have been tutoring since 2010 or so. I have a relatively small number of clients, but they return for a length of time. Some people have been tutored by me for four years or more, while others are helped within four-to-six months. A small percentage of clients only need me for a month or less. I work diligently with them to improve whatever issues are keeping them from being better writers, communicators, or readers. I try to help them with all their classes, for instance, but higher math and science (demanding different formula terminology to complete exercises in different counties close to where I live) are not my preference. However, I have read college students' writings which include documentation such as graphs and charts, editing their mathematical errors or grammar issues. I learn as I teach/tutor. Try to secure a community of clients who feel comfortable when working with you to secure their various goals. Listen to their needs and wants. Move them up the learning scale using positive feedback and expecting great results. Give yourself a week of rest after you have completed your Wyzant Profile in order to approach your new clients with confidence and positivity. Let your clients know that they will be responsible for the end-product/assignments. You are there to help them improve their writings, reading ability, subject skills...They do the initial work, and you help them improve what they have written, etc. You are not responsible for doing their work for them without asking for their input first. You will need to show respect for them, and they will need to reciprocate.
