Must know tips for the analytical writing section— Plan your essay using at least three main points you will make before you begin writing. When tackling the question, first read it carefully, then ask yourself what the kind of argument will satisfy the question, then read it again and ask yourself if your first impression of what the question is asking still feels right! It's easy to forget to think and just start banging away words without a plan but if you want a high score spend some time analyzing the question before starting an argument to satisfy the question. Remember, there is no correct or incorrect answer to an analytical writing question! For example, Agree or disagree with this statement, a college degree is vital to long term financial success in the United States. One can argue for or against this position. Statistically, people with a four year degree have higher lifetime earnings but Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg are all college dropouts so one could agree or disagree or agree a little and disagree a little. Your answer is not as important as your ARGUMENT!!! Don't say it, prove it. Decide what you need to prove before you start writing, think of three main points and then go! AND SAVE TIME TO GO BACK AND PROOFREAD BEFORE YOU SUBMIT!
