Is it worth re-encoding GoPro footage to H.265?

Considering that I'm not a professional editor and only record some random skateboard, snowboard or just some travel footage around with my GoPro Session 4, is re-encoding to H.265 to save storage space a good idea? What possible drawback could I expect if I wanted to edit with these files after the re-encoding?

Stick with GoPro's native codec which use to be labelled Cineform. It retains the highest amount of information possible. When you convert to H.265, you are throwing away data that you will never get back.
