I myself haven't seen Hindi speakers be particularly proud about writing Hindi with Latin / Roman letters but I do think it's more a matter of convenience when writing on a phone or computer, which perhaps has led to it being quite common. As a Hindi learner I remember having a tough time deciphering text messages in Romanized Hindi because a consistent system isn't used. For example, if you're writing "क्या हाल-चाल है ?" you might write it: "kya hal-chal hai?" or "kyaa haal-chaal hai?" While in books for Hindi learners it would be "kyā hāl-cāl hai?" (in the academic Latin/Roman system, च = ca / छ = cha)
I don't think I answered your question but I do find writing Hindi in Latin/Roman letters to be interesting (and sometimes confusing)!
