Hi Lunese,
The first thing to do as you start on this word problem is to decide what operation to use. Is this an addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division problem? If you're stuck, you might try using whole numbers to make it easier. For example, if I asked you "Grace bought 3 pounds of black cherries. She bought four times that amount in red cherries. How many pounds of red cherries did Grace buy?" it would be easier to tell that this is a multiplication word problem.
1) The first step when multiplying fractions is to convert mixed numbers to improper fractions. Y
2) Our next step is to multiply.
Remember to multiply numerator times numerator and denominator times denominator.
3) Now we need to convert this fraction back to a mixed number.
4) But wait! Check to see that your answer is in simplest form.
