To determine a ration, you must have two numbers that can be compared. Since one of your numbers is feet and the other inches, we can't compare them. Turn one of them into the same unit as the other and you can compare them. To convert 2 feet into inches, set up a proportion. First you need to know that there is 12 inches in 1 foot. Then you would say, 1 foot is to 12 inches like 2 feet is to x inches or:
Cross multiply to solve for x, 1 times x = 12 times 2 or x = 24 inches.
Now, you can write the ratio of 24 inches to 48 inches
The inches cancel out so you just have 24/48. Reduce the fraction by dividing both the top and bottom by 24
