Actually, the noble gases can, and do form compounds, but in limited numbers and not as readily as other elements. The reason for their relative inactivity is because they have a complete octet in tge valence shell. That is to say their outer shell is full and they are stabe. They don’t care to gain or lose any electrons so they are not likely to form bonds.
