Why might you use the Pythagorean Theorem or the Distance Formula to find the area of an object?

OK suppose the triangle has vertex points on the graph at

(0,0)

(0,5)

(12,0)

The distance formula says, the measure of the legs are 5 and 12.

The pythagorean theorem says the hypotenuse is 13.

The area is therefore 1/2 * 5 * 12 = 30 and the perimeter is also 5+12+13 = 30 as well
