Brianna has a sheet of paper that is 2 feet long. She cuts the length of paper into halves and then cuts the length of each of these 1/2 pieces into fourths. How many pieces does she have? How many inches long is each piece?

By cutting the original in half, she now has 2 pieces. Each of those pieces when cut into fourth make 4 pieces. So she has 2*4=8 pieces.

Another way to solve is 1/2 * 1/4 = (1*1)/(2*4) = 1/8. So since each final piece is 1/8 the original, there are 8 such pieces.
