1. Drew has 21 coins, all nickels and quarters, worth 2.85. How many nickels and quarters does Drew have
2. Sally’s $1800 savings is in two accounts. Her total interest for the year was $93 from one account earning 6% interest and another earning 3% interest. How much does she have in each account.
3. The talent show committee sold a total of 530 tickets in advance. Student tickets cost $3 each and the adult tickets cost $4 each. If the total receipts were $1740, how many of each type of ticket were sold?

1) N + Q = 21 , which means Q = 21-N

5N + 25Q = 285 <-- amount in pennies, so as to avoid the decimals

5N + 25(21-N) = 285

5N + 525 - 25N= 285

-20N + 525 = 285

-20N = -240

N = -240/-20 = 240/20 = 12

Then it must be Q = 21 - 12 = 9

5*!2 + 9*25 = 60 + 225 = 285

9 quarters and 12 nickels

2) X+Y = 1800, which means Y = 1800-x

0.06X + 0.03Y = 93

006X + 0.03(1800 - x) = 93

0.06X + 54 - 0.03x = 93

0.03x + 54 = 93

0.03x = 39

3x = 3900

x = 1300

y = 1800 - x = 1800 - 1300 = 500

1300 at 6% and 500 at 3% =
