You need to isoloate the varialbe. Get the x's on one side and the numbers on the other
3x-5=2x+14 subtract 2x from both sides
3x-2x-5= 2x-2x+14 3x-2x = x and 2x-2x=0
x-5 = 14 add 5 to both sides
x-5 +5 = 14+ 5
x = 19
Check subsitute 19 back in the original equation for x
3(19) -5 = 2(19) +14
57- 5 = 38 + 14
52 = 52 Which is true so the correct answer is x =19
