if a right triangle with acute angle of measure Ø, sin Ø = 1/2, use the Pythagorean identity to determine the value of cos Ø

this is on my final review, and i have a few questions, how would i get the Cos if I do not know the adj? Please explain this whole problem to me if possible, thank you.

is there a difference from the Pythagorean Theorem versus the Pythagorean Identity? and I realize sin is opposite over hypotenuse so what I did was 1² + x² = 2², and I ended up with radical 3 over 2 as my final answer, is this correct?
