If the total number of kids in the class is T, then to determine the number of boys, you would multiply T times 2/3. That means you can write an equation 2/3T = 24. To solve this equation, you would multiply both sides of the equation by the reciprocal of 2/3 which is 3/2. The equation becomes (3/2)*(2/3)T = (3/2)(24) or T=3/2(24). That means T = 36 [24/2=12 and 12*3=36]. If there is a total of 36 kids, and 24 are boys, then 12 are girls.
