a) Dissolution/ionization would be exothermic. Since the temperature of the water rose from 24.6 to 31.3 degrees, heat was given off by the "reaction", thus indicating an exothermic reaction.
b) q = mC∆T = (100.0g)(4.184 J/g/deg)(6.7 deg) = 2803 J = 2800 J (2.80 kJ) of heat gained by the water.
