Atomic number 6 is carbon (C) and it has a total of 6 electrons. The electronic configuration would be:
1s2 2s2 2p2
A common polyatomic molecule containing carbon would be carbon dioxide (CO2). The electron dot (Lewis dot structure) is difficult to draw on this platform, but here is my attempt. Each O will have 2 lone pairs of electrons and will be bonded to the central C atoms by a double bond. The ^^ symbols are only being used as spacers.
