This is about naming oxyanions. Start with -ate; remove one O to get -ite; remove another O to get hypo-ite
To deduce the formula for the hyposulfite anion, start with sulfate, SO42-
Remove one oxygen to get SO32- which is sulfite
Remove one more oxygen to get SO22- which is hyposulfite
(NOTE: hyposulfite/hyposulfurous acid probably don't actually exist)
