3(x-2)^2-2(x-1) I'm having trouble helping my son with this one

Question

The answer given for my son on his math quarterly exam was different than how he solved it. He is having trouble figuring out how they distributed it. Can you please help me help him? He is not 100% confident he will have the opportunity to speak to his math teacher about it at length.

3(x^2 -4x + 4) -2x +2

3x^2 -12x + 12 -2x + 2
