What has a higher ionization energy? Ca or Ba and Ca or Br Explain. (using CER)

Ca would have a greater IE than Ba because they are both in the same group (2) but since Ca is in period 4 and Ba is in period 6, Ca has fewer shells and so the radius is smaller than for Ba. This makes it more difficult to remove the valence electrons and so the IE is greater.
