Area of rectangle

Question

The area of a rectangle is 27 square meters. If the length is 6 meters less than 3 times the width, then find the dimensions of the rectangle. Round off your answers to the nearest hundredth.

Area = A, Length = L, W = width

L = 3W - 6

A = LW = W(3W -6) = 27

$3W^2-6W-27=0$

$W^2-2W-9=0$

The quadratic formula gives and extraneous root and $W=1+\sqrt{1}0$ which is approximately 4.16 and that makes L = 6.49.
