Then use only 1 vertex, and from that 1 vertex, draw a line to each of the other vertices.

Notice, it makes 4 triangles. Each triangle has 180 degrees in it. So a hexagon has 4 * 180 = 720 degrees in total.
If it was a quadrilateral, it only makes 2 triangles, so every quadrilateral has 2 * 180 = 360 degrees in total.
