Hi Dyangelia, there are 36 possible out comes from rolling a pail of six sided dice. We need to know how many of the 36 can be represented by a number of 4 or less.
Possible outcomes:
1 + 1 = 2
1 + 2 = 3
2 + 1 = 3
1 + 3 = 4
3 + 1 = 4
2 + 2 = 4
There is one way to roll a 2, two ways to roll a three, and three ways to roll a 4.
Each possible outcome represents 1/36.
The probability is 1/36 + 2/36 + 3/36 or 6/36 ways to roll a number lest or equal to 4.
P(number less than or equal to 4) = 1/36 + 2/36 + 3/36 or 6/36 = 1/6
Therefore, the probability of roll a number less than or equal to 4 is 1/6.
