We need to know how old his son is right now, but we don't!!!
Right now, the son is X
5 years from now, the son shall be X+5
Mr. Peters is
3(X+5)+2 = 3x + 17
The son will be 8 in (8-x) years
Adding that to Mr. Peter's age:
3x+17 + 8-x =
2x + 25
SO....
suppose right now the son is x=5.
Then Mr. Peters is 3(5)+17 = 15+17 = 32
His son will be 8 in 3 years, which will make Mr. Peters 35.
AND 2(5)+25 = 10+25=35 so it checks
